Back Pain

Back pain, particularly lower back pain is a very common condition which we treat daily. It can often start for no obvious reason and can occur suddenly or over time due to repetitive strain injuries.

The spine is a strong structure and back problems are rarely due to any serious disease or damage.

Back MOT

Our Back MOT service offers you regular scheduled check-ups, maybe every two to three months or so. This allows us to check the condition of your back and treat any imbalance or vulnerability accordingly at that time. It’s a good way to keep your back healthy and free of pain.

Causes of back pain

There are many reasons why you may develop lower back pain, including conditions in the work environment. Working on a computer on a daily basis could aggravate the spine. If you lift or carry for a living, and you raise a heavyweight item and lift incorrectly, this may lead to ongoing back pain.

Common causes of back and neck pain include:

  • Straining of the muscles or ligaments
  • Pressure on inter-vertebral discs
  • Nerve compression or entrapment
  • Damage to the vertebrae (spine)

Common symptoms of back pain

Pain can be felt in many different ways and may be felt in places other than your back. Symptoms can include:

  • Stiffness
  • Muscle spasms
  • Hot, burning, shooting or stabbing pains in your back and sometimes into one or both of your legs or feet
  • Pins and needles, numbness or weakness, likely due to nerve irritation
