Sciatica is a common condition and refers to pain, weakness, numbness, or tingling in the leg. Although the pain of sciatica is felt in the leg, it often comes from the lower back. The pain experienced from this can make simple actions become extremely difficult.
Sciatica is caused by pressure on, or injury to the sciatic nerve. Your sciatic nerve is the longest and thickest nerve in your body. It starts in the lower back and goes all the way down the back of the leg into the foot. You have two sciatic nerves, one on each side of your body.
When treating sciatica, our aim is to reduce pain and improve mobility.
